Band 1 covers a full examination of your oral health, including diagnosis, advice, and preventative care. This may include X-rays, a scale and polish where clinically required, and guidance on maintaining good oral hygiene. It is designed to assess your dental health and help prevent future problems.
Band 2 includes everything covered in Band 1, along with additional treatments required to restore your oral health. This may include fillings, root canal treatment, and extractions. The aim is to treat existing dental issues and prevent them from worsening.
Band 3 includes all treatments covered under Bands 1 and 2, plus more complex procedures that require laboratory work. This includes crowns, dentures, and bridges. These treatments are designed to restore the function and appearance of your teeth over the longer term.
Urgent NHS dental treatment is charged at the Band 1 rate of £27.90. This covers care needed to address immediate problems such as pain, swelling, or trauma. Treatment provided at an urgent appointment is focused on stabilising the issue and relieving discomfort. Any further treatment required to complete your care will usually be arranged as part of a separate course of treatment and may incur an additional charge.
You may be entitled to free NHS dental treatment if you meet certain eligibility criteria set by NHS England. This includes patients who are under 18, or under 19 and in full-time education, those who are pregnant or have had a baby within the last 12 months, and individuals receiving certain qualifying benefits such as Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Pension Credit Guarantee Credit, or Universal Credit where criteria are met.
Some patients may also be entitled to partial help with dental costs through the NHS Low Income Scheme. If you believe you may be eligible, please let a member of our team know before your appointment. You may be asked to provide valid evidence of your exemption, and incorrect claims may result in a penalty charge issued by the NHS.
We kindly ask that NHS dental charges are paid in full before your course of treatment begins. This allows us to secure your appointments and plan your care effectively from the outset, ensuring your treatment can be carried out without delays.
Taking payment in advance helps reduce missed or late-cancelled appointments. When appointments are not used, it limits our ability to offer care to other patients and can affect the smooth running of the practice and appointment availability.
As NHS resources are limited, missed or unused appointments impact our ability to provide timely treatment to all patients, including those who may require urgent care. This approach supports a fair and efficient use of available appointments.
If your treatment plan changes at any stage, any difference in cost will be adjusted accordingly. You will either be refunded any overpayment or asked to pay any outstanding balance before your treatment is completed, and this will always be clearly explained to you.
